Bar is situated in the Southern-Eastern part of Montenegro, on the shore of Adriatic Sea. This is a municipality with area of 505 km2, has around 40.000 inhabitants, and the town itself around 18.000, the shore length of this municipality is 46 km, whereof the beaches are 9 km, the climate is Mediterranean is quite conditioned by vicinity of two great water surfaces (Adriatic Sea and Lake of Skadar) but also by the mountain massive of Rumia. Maximal average summer monthly temperature is 23,5 0 C. Even though there are scant precise data on founding the town, the old olive tree on Mirovica, the real monument of nature, testifies that there were organised settlements in this area over 2000 years ago. The Slav name Bar originates from the Greek work Antibareaos and the Roman Antibarum.
Known as a port, and not as a tourist town, Bar represents an important tourist lure and is important strongpoint of the Montenegrin tourist offer with its largest medieval urban agglomeration in ruins Old Bar, with fortress Haj-Nehaj, in fact the remnants of the medieval town from 15 th century, with eights monasteries and around fifteen churches, with largest and most beautiful lake on the Balkans – Lake of Skadar in the vicinity, with over 100.000 olive trees, among which the majority is old over 1000 years, with the King Nicholas' Palace, with around ten hotels and somewhat over 3000 beds, with around fifteen arranged beaches and bathing places, with around fifteen travel agencies and bureaus, with over seventy various catering facilities, four discos, with international TV festival, Chronicle of Bar, volleyball Port Championship, Encounters under the Old Olive Tree (under the very olive tree old over 2000 years), with suburb settlement Sutomore, the most visited destination by the national guests on the Riviera and very beautiful inlets Canj, Utjeha and Dobra Voda.
